We were a factory which support the customize development by sample ,drawing (CAD,stp,igs),the software we were using were solidwork ,CAD ,UG to communicate with customer

We were a manufactory who control the quality according to the TS 16949 quality control system.

We were a company use ERP system to tracking all the information from the raw material to the end of packing and keep all document record over 2 years.

Engine oil pickup tube

The engine oil pickup tube work as engine oil lubrication system ,it help to lubrication all the part inside the engine moving reduce the friction between part ,such as camshaft and crankshaft.

The engine oil pump strainer also work as part to stop the small particle inside the lubrication oil which storage within the oil pan going inside the engine oil passage .when the small particle meeting the engine oil pump screen ,it was keeping outside within intake into the oil pump .

Normally the oil pump screen assemble by 4 part:

1.Engine oil pickup tube Stamping bracket:some of the engine oil pickup tube need to attach the engine block by a block due to the long steel on strainer

2.Engine oil pump Steel mesh screen :0.022 inches (0.56mm) to 0.031 inches (0.7 mm) with 0.011" diameter wire.

3.Steel tube :seamless steel tube in cast the pin holes on the pipe and keep good performance during bending.

4.Flange :there was a flange attach on the end of the tube connect to the oil pump ,some of the engine oil pickup tube was not use the flange and by NPT thread .

5.Engine oil pump screen cup :normally there was a cup around the mesh oil pump screen ,some of them just use a steel bracket and welding the mesh on it .

All above part was assemble by the Atmosphere Furnace Brazing welding.because brass had a lower melt point than steel .so it was good to keep the engine oil pickup strainer in good shape without deformation after welding .

Engine oil pickup tube was combine by the cap,screen ,steel tube ,flange ,steel bracket,so we need copper alloy or aluminum alloy as molten filler material, to joint them together.

Brazing furnace controlled atmosphere by nitrogen or hydrogen.

However it does not contain oxygen incase the oil pickup tube oxidation.

Cleaning and degreasing oEngine oil strainer , assemble by press-fit or TIG welding,
paste copper alloy,Preheating ,Heating,Brazing
Cooling.

Laser cutting engine oil pickup tube steel bracket and oil pickup screen mesh was also done by it

It can save some blanking mold cost by laser cutting

Some of the engine oil pump strainer bracket was just a angle without any reinforcement,so it was much more easy to use the press break to forming the shap of bracket

Some of the bracket need to be forming reinforcement,so we need to use the stamping and punching ,also it was a process for the Engine oil pump screen cup.

Engine oil pickup strainer seamless tube

The steel seamless tube was the main part of the engine oil pickup strainer .It was a steel tube connect to the oil pump and suck the lubrication oil from oil pan .

Some of the engine oil pan had the baffle ,so we need to consider the angle of bending to avoiding the engine oil pump strainer interfere the baffle .

We use the CNC bending machine to control the angle of the tube and bending the steel tube once a time without second time loading and unloading the pipe to ensure the angle of the tube was meeting the drawing requirement.

The capacity of the bending machine in our company can handle the pipe with DIA 120mm with thickness :4.0mm for steel seamless pipe

Since the key Characteristics of engine oil pickup screen mesh tube fitment was the angle of the steel tube ,so to check the angle after bending was fitting with the working instruction call out was very important .

We cant check all the angle of the bending tube by CMM ,the best way to check it was by the inspection gauge ,this kind of inspection gauge was also working out for the Engine steel auto coolant pipe .

1.put the bending steel pipe on the gauge and fix it by clipping

2.use go and nogo gauge to check the pipe was ok or NG.

Laboratory calibration

All the inspection for the engine oil pickup tube need to be calibration before put into mass production

We calibration the gauge according the the WORKIING INSTRUCTION (WI) call out

The inspection tool was necessary for the auto part production ,all the part had dimension ,to ensure all the size was correct under the tolerance ,we need the CMM to make the stamping mold ,welding fixture ,inspection gauge

TIG welding assemble all the part

Before we put the engine oil pump strainer into the Atmosphere Furnace Brazing ,we need to hold all the sub part of oil pickup into place .the TIG welding was the best option for to hold all the part into a angle

Assemble need to be put all the part under tolerance called out ,so we need the welding fixture ,the welding fixture also need to be calibrate by cmm before we put into use

Leaking test

Each engine oil pump screen strainer need to go though leaking test

As the engine oil pump oil pickup steel tube connect to the cup screen ,also with flange ,so it to go though the leaking test after brazing welding .

The test condition :

1.The air cylinder push the end plug to the water coolant pipe end .

2.The air pressure go up to 1.2 Bar

3.indicator keep at 1.2Bar within 30 second

Then we consider engine oil pickup tube was ok ,but if indicator was suddent drop down ,we will put the engine oil pickup tube on side to rework it by welding or check the leaking point by water pressure

Drying the engine oil pump screen tube

After the leaking test ,there may be some water inside the engine oil pickup tube.

The water was coming from air compressor or the water leaking test .

It was hard to see what was going on inside the tube due to it was bending and there was a lot of angle inside a tube ,so it was much more better for a engine oil pump steel strainer to dry it up after the test .

Surface treatment by zinc coating for engine oil pump strainer tube

Surface treatment for engine oil pickup tube was very important ,although someone who may think the oil pump strainer steel tube was immerse inside the lubrication oil without rust ,however we need to consider not the whole engine oil pump oll pickup tube was inside the oil ,the flange ,some part of the tube ,the part during the transport before we put into use .

Why we choose zinc coating instead of power coating ,it was because some of the small particle for the power coating may peel off after a long time ,beside power coating was not resist to the oil .

Salt spray test for engine oil pickup steel pipe

1.Engine oil pump screen steel pipe are placed in a chamber

2.Exposed to a continuous, 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) salt mist at 35°

3.According to ASTM B117 (neutral) or ISO 9227 (NSS, AASS, or CASS).the engine oil pickup steel pipe should not have withe rust within 24hours,the red rust should not apprear within 48 hours ,then we consider the engine oil pump screen steel pipe go though the Salt spray test.

When we got the sample from our supplier ,we need to make the sample inside computer to be as 3D stp igs and read by solidwork or UG,CAD

The createform help us to take all the data from the sample and make it as stl file for the next reverse engineering

When the file of sample was set up ,the next step was produce a engine coolant water steel pipe welding fixture

Raw material test

The raw material should go though the test before we put into mass production .

It was a key process for the engine oil pickup tube ,because the engine was keep vibration during the car running ,so we need to keep the part strong enough to support all the part running inside ,otherwise the engine lubrication system lost pressure and amay lead all part failure without lubrication.

1.Mechanical properties:Yield strength and tensile strength

2.Chemical element:C,Mn,S,Si,P,we need to make it under the tolerance within specification.

1.Raw material test

2.Bending the seamless tube and inspection .

3.Stamping the engine oil pump screen tube bracket and flange with cup ,screen

4.Assemble them by the TIG welding first

7.Drying the engine oil pump strainer before surface treatment.
